What is an air conditioning system?
An air conditioning system provides cooling in the summer. Air Conditioning only systems are also called "straight cool" or "cooling only" systems. They are used in climates where heating is not required, but an optional electric heater coil can be installed to provide some heating capability.
How does an air conditioning system work?
During the summer, a straight cool system uses electricity as it's power source, the compressor then pumps the refrigerant through the system gathering heat and moisture from indoors, removing it outdoors. Heat and moisture are then removed from inside the home when warm air from inside the home is blown over the cooled indoor coil. The heat in the air transfers to the coil, thereby cooling the air in your home.
